THANJAVUR: Women self-help groups have been participating in the production of goods for various festivals and market them.

Come Karthigai, it is time for them to produce clay lamps and sell them (Agal vilakkus of various colours and varieties).

During Navarathiri they made dolls.

Now for Christmas and New year, the groups in the district have displayed their products at an exhibition under way at Ramanathan Chettiar Hall near old bus stand.

M.S. Shanmugham, Collector, who inaugurated the exhibition on Tuesday, said that women SHGs have grown from strength to strength in the district and were moving towards the next phase of activity.

Bank deposits up

Their bank deposits have gone up and products were of quality, artistic and reasonably priced.

People should patronise them by purchasing articles from this exhibition.

Christmas dolls, Thanjavur paintings, art plates, ornamental garlands, Thanjavur dolls, laminated paintings, handloom goods, embroidery works, jute goods, terracotta dolls were on display at the exhibition, which would be open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and would go on till January 13.
