The Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research in association with Rotary Club of Pondicherry Beach Town organised an awareness programme on childhood cancer. More than 60 children who are undergoing treatment for cancer and their parents attended the programme.

Doctors from JIPMER underscored the need for creating awareness of early detection of cancer in children. Some early signs are continued unexplained weight loss, headaches often with early morning vomiting, increased swelling or persistent pain in bones, joints, bones, back or legs, and lump particularly in abdomen, neck, chest, pelvis and armpits, said a release .
