The Additional District Court here on Wednesday sentenced seven persons, including a woman, to life imprisonment in a 2011 murder case.

According to the prosecution, Velu (45), a contractor of Usilampatti, who was supplying centring sheets to private building contractors, was killed by a gang of mercenaries from Madurai. Velu’s wife Selvi (35) had an affair with their neighbour Karikalan, and when Velu came to know of it, they planned the murder, the prosecution claimed.

As planned by them, Saravanan, Sasikumar, Nagaraj, Malaichamy, Jeyakodi and a juvenile hacked Velu to death with machetes at his house on July 27, 2011. The trial against the juvenile was being held in the Juvenile Justice Board, the prosecution submitted.
