A separate session with industries will be held on June 12
The Coimbatore Corporation in association with Siruthuli, Task, Residents’ Awareness Association of Coimbatore (RAAC) and a few other non-government organisations had planned a series of events to create awareness among residents on rainwater harvesting.
According to R. Raveendran, Honorary Secretary, RAAC, the Corporation had planned to renovate rainwater harvesting structures on all its premises before June 15, conduct a series of awareness programmes by June 11, complete inspection of RWH in new buildings by the end of this month and the task of pasting stickers by June 10 and in old buildings by June 30.
In association with the NGOs, the Corporation will create awareness among the public by way of advertisements in FM radios and newspapers. As part of the programme, the Corporation and the NGOs had planned to clean the Selva Chinthamani Tank on June 15, conduct a painting competition at the VOC Park on June 21 at 7 a.m., a short film contest on the same day at 7 p.m. at VOC Park, and a street play contest for college students.
To encourage industries to go in for RWH structures, the Corporation and the NGOs had planned a separate session with industries on June 12.
There will be an exhibition on RWH by school students and a Google mapping event on areas that are prone to inundation to construct the RWH structures.
Mr. Raveendran said that the Corporation had also planned to clean the Vilankurichi tank and train licensed plumbers.
