CHENNAI: A series of events have been organised to mark the centenary year of C. Subramaniam, culminating on January 30 next year.

An official communication from the family stated that the leader was also a connoisseur of arts, with particular interest in Carnatic music and Bharatanatyam.

Three eminent Bharatanatyam artists, who were closely associated with him — Padma Subramanyam, Alarmel Valli and Urmila Sathyanarayanan — have come together to pay homage to him at an event to be held at the Music Academy on December 5 at 6.30 p.m.

The event is being organised by the Ragalaya Trust founded by Kalaimamani Thiruvaarur Bakthavatsalam and Subramaniam’s daughter-in-law Kalaimamani Geetha Rajasekar.

It is involved in reviving classical music in temples in an ambience that was reminiscent of the glorious past.
