Members of senior citizens federation and Help Age India took out a rally on Tuesday on the occasion of World Elders’ day.
Deputy Superintendent of Police K.Muralidharan flagged off the rally, taken out from Roman Church to Schwartz school, pressing for a charter of demands.
S.Jesuraj, president of the district-level federation of senior citizens said the demands included a separate reservation counter for senior citizens at the Railway station here, free bus pass for elders in all government buses and increase in old age pension to Rs. 2,000 in view of the steep price rise of all commodities. He said the Federation also demanded establishment of a Geriatric ward and a psychological counselling centre at the headquarters hospital here.
