SALEM: The Department of Economics at Periyar University will conduct a two- day national seminar on Environment Challenges of 21st century on March 27 and 28.

A press release from the University says that more than 200 environmentalists and economists across the country will take part and deliberate on crucial issues such as globalisation and emerging environmental problems, measurement of environmental degradation, government policy towards environment protection, environment and agriculture, environment and industry and environment and sustainable development.

The other subjects that would be taken up include environment and legal issues, environment and community participation, environment education and global warming. Twelve parallel technical sessions have been scheduled for thread bread discussions.

S. Kannaiyan, chairman, National Bio-diversity Authority of the Government of India will deliver presidential address. M. Thangaraju, Vice-Chancellor, Periyar University, will preside.
