THANJAVUR: A total of 1,500 tonnes of paddy seeds were processed annually at the two processing units at Kattuthottam near Thanjavur and Sakkottai near Kumbakonam in the district, according to M.S. Shanmugham, Collector.

After inspecting the unit at Kattuthottam near Thanjavur on Wednesday, he said that there were two equipments at Kattuhottam, which could process 500 kg and 1000 kg of seeds per hour.

The two machines at Sakkottai could process 500 kg and 2500 kg of paddy seeds in an hour.

Paddy was cultivated on 1,50,450 hectares in the district in all the three seasons i.e., kuruvai, samba and thaladi. This year paddy under the System of Rice Intensification method had been raised in 45,000 hectares.
