Patients and visitors to be monitored on the premises
With tense drama unfolding at Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College Hospital over the past five days over the treatment meted out to Laxmi and her leaving the hospital, the hospital administration had decided to conduct a detailed probe on April 24 and bring the truth to light.
Dean Dr. R. Vallinayagam told The Hindu that a three-member senior doctor team would conduct a detailed probe in which doctors, staff nurses and workers in the ward would be questioned.
“Laxmi and Samuel would be asked to come and an identification parade would be conducted again,” he added.
“A letter has been send to their address in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh,” he added.
The team would also study the recordings of surveillance camera on Sunday morning and also on Wednesday evening, when she left ignoring medical advice.
A letter written in Tamil and signed by Samuel in Telugu while they were leaving would also be probed.
The administration had also decided to post two women constables and two security personnel outside the maternity ward.
A vigilance team would monitor the movement of touts on the premises and also conduct checks in wards and make inquiries with patients and their relatives, if required.
A system would also be in place so that only after the discharge certificate is given by the duty doctor, would the woman be allowed to leave the ward by the security personnel.
“This would prevent patients leaving without the knowledge of the administration,” the dean added.
Earlier, duty doctor Gowri Sangeetha lodged a complaint with the GH police station that despite warnings, Laxmi and Samuel along with few personnel, including women, had left the ward on Wednesday evening.
The police have registered a case under Sections 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) and 294 (b) (uttering obscene words in public words) of the Indian Penal Code.
Laxmi gave birth to a boy near the drainage at the Salem Corporation’s commercial complex because she was denied admission to the hospital during her labour pain.
Later she was admitted to the hospital and a woman conservancy worker was placed under suspension for demanding money.
