Police told to be vigilant till counting is over
TIRUNELVELI: Collector G. Prakash has exhorted the police to be vigilant till counting of votes to be polled in the local body elections to be held on October 13 and 15 is completed.
Addressing a meeting held here on Monday with top police officials to review the security arrangements made across the district to ensure free and fair polls, Mr. Prakash said that additional safety measures should be ensured in the areas where sensitive and hypersensitive booths were located so that it would instil confidence in voters.
Moreover, videographing of voters and the entire polling process would be done in these areas, as it would keep the miscreants at bay while encouraging common voters to exercise their franchise without any fear.
The Collector urged the police officials to ensure strict implementation of the guidelines of State Election Commission, particularly directives on the use of vehicles, public address system and public spots to organise election campaign meetings.
None should be allowed to use public address system for campaigning before 6 a.m. and after 10 p.m.
Election rallies should be allowed only through permitted routes and any deviation should be strictly dealt with.
Mr. Prakash appealed to the police officials to discuss topics actually talked about in the meeting with their sub-ordinates and give clear instructions to them on the safety measures to be in place for the next few days.
Superintendent of Police N.K. Senthamaraikannan, Deputy Commissioner (Law and Order) R. Dhinakaran, District Revenue Officer G. Loganathan and Project Officer, District Rural Development Agency, F. Abdul Razick participated.
