TIRUCHI: Security at Tiruchi Junction and other important stations in the Tiruchi railway division will be stepped up as a precautionary measure in connection with the Babri Masjid demolition anniversary on December 6.
The Government Railway Police (GRP) and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) have formulated detailed security schemes mobilising their strength in order to beef up security and strengthen surveillance at the important stations. The enhanced security will come into effect from December 3 onwards.
Sources said commando-trained RPF and GRP personnel would be in a state of readiness at the Tiruchi Junction. Anti-sabotage checks would be conducted by security personnel attached to the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad at Tiruchi and other important stations. Security would also be provided to important bridges.
Passengers would be frisked at Tiruchi from December 4 by GRP and RPF personnel who would also check their baggages. Women passengers would be frisked separately by women security personnel.
Entry would be through door frame metal detectors which would be installed at the station building. The yard and parcels would be subjected to checks by security personnel. The sources said Railway Protection Special Force personnel would also be deployed at Tiruchi Junction to augment bandobust arrangements. Railway Police officials said the services of Home Guards would be utilised to assist the security personnel.
