Terrorist attack on Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore

Tuticorin: The police have beefed up security in Tuticorin district, especially around vital and sensitive installations such as Heavy Water Plant (HWP) under the Department of Atomic Energy, Tuticorin Port Trust (TPT) and Tuticorin Thermal Power Station (TTPS).

Speaking to The Hindu , Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal, Superintendent of Police, said the tightening of the security was part of the precautionary measures taken in the wake of the recent terrorist attack on Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore.

As part of the extra security measures, police patrolling 'around' the premises of heavy water plant, TTPS and in areas falling immediately outside the jurisdiction of TPT, have been intensified, specifically during the nights.

He said security `within' the port limits was taken care of by the Central Industrial Security Force

(CISF) and similarly, the internal security at the HWP was already manned by their own security personnel along with a stationed armed policeman provided to them from the local police force.
