NAGAPATTINAM: The Land for Tillers Freedom (LAFTI) at Kuthur village in Nagapattinam district on Monday handed over a cheque for Rs.30 lakh to Tenkasi S.Jawahar, Collector, towards repayment of second instalment of loan received from the National Scheduled Castes Financial Development Corporation (NSCFDC), New Delhi, for purchase of agricultural land by the Adi Dravidar community people in the district.

The Collector who received the cheque from Mrs. Krishnammal Jagannathan, secretary of LAFTI, said that there were about 4.41 lakh Adi Dravidar community people in Nagapattinam district and pointed out that the Tamil Nadu Adi Dravidar Housing and Development Corporation (TAHDCO) was taking all out efforts for the economic development of Adi Dravidar community people in the district.

He said that the LAFTI received Rs.3.48 crore from the NSCFDC with a subsidy of Rs.1.57 crore from the TAHDCO and purchased agricultural land to the extent of Rs.1,061 acre and provided to 1,061 Adi Dravidar (one acre each) in 2006-07.

The LAFTI repaid Rs.30 lakh as the first instalment of loan amount in July last year.
