CHENNAI: Football fans in parts of Triplicane and Chintadripet were frustrated on Friday as cable connection was cut off in these areas, a few hours before the first match of the World Cup football kicked off. Many subscribers said they could not view the match as the connection did not resume even after the Germany - Costa Rica match ended.
According to SCV sources, a cable belonging to the multi system operator was cut in Triplicane. On receiving a complaint, SCV sent its personnel around 6-45 p.m. to rectify the fault and telecast was resumed, the sources claimed.
A reporter from this newspaper who visited the affected areas got mixed reports. The cable network had failed in parts of Triplicane High Road.
However, the owner of a medical shop on the same road pointed to the television and said he got the signal and saw the first match clearly.
Similarly, front office personnel of a small hotel in the area said some of the guests watched the match without problem.
An employee in an educational institution near Anna Salai, said they had a Dish TV connection, but they have not been receiving many of the channels since late evening.
