SIVAGANGA: Alagappa University would organise Tamil Science congress on Friday and Saturday in its campus at Karaikudi, said its Vice Chancellor P. Ramasamy, .

Speaking to reporters at Karaikudi near here on Thursday, he said that its was the first time that the university was organising such a meet since its inception. All deliberations and activities of the Congress would be conducted in Tamil.

As many as 553 research papers had been received for presentation. More than 450 scientists, professors and experts from many States had registered for participation.

The researchers had prepared the material in easy Tamil. A book had been designed by utilising the contribution of all researchers.

Mr. Ramasamy said that the Tamil Nadu Science Congress and a team of academicians of various departments of the university had extended active support to facilitate the conference to be conducted in Tamil.

The aim was to disseminate information on scientific discoveries and inventions in subjects such as Tamil Science Education, Physics, Engineering and Chemistry to all people of the State in a language familiar to them. It could gradually pave the wave for publishing all scientific books in Tamil.

Kundrakudi Ponnambala Adigalar and N. Siva, MP, Vice Chancellors M. Poonavaikko (Bharathidasan University), M. Rajendran (Tamil University), Saroja Prabhakaran (Avinashilingam Women’s University) and former Vice-Chancellors would participate in the inaugural function.

The focus of the conference would be on various types of energy, including solar, thermal, lignite, wind, gasifier and seawater. The available sources, invention and progress on designing various technologies would be discussed in detail.
