Schools get new toilet blocks

The newly constructed and renovated toilet blocks at the Government Higher Secondary School, Velliyanai, and the Government Higher Secondary School, Uppidamanmangalm, near here taken up under the aegis of the Rotary Club of Karur Angels and the Lakshmi Vilas Bank were brought to use on Wednesday.

In the absence of dedicated lavatories on the school premises due to which girl students were suffering a great deal, the Rotary Club of Karur Angels decided to construct and rehabilitate toilet blocks in these schools. Adequate water facilities have also been provided at the blocks, according to Rotary Club president G. Neelavathi.

When the Club approached the Lakshmi Vilas Bank for financial support, the bank readily accepted the plan and worked in tandem with the Rotary Club of Karur Angels to help construct the toilet blocks. The works were completed at an estimated cost of Rs. 2.5 lakh.

It has been planned to conduct an orientation programme for the beneficiaries to help them maintain the toilet blocks . The school administrations have also promised to appoint labourers to maintain the toilet blocks. The Rotary Club of Karur Angels was undertaking toilet block renovation works in three other schools and they would be ready in a couple of months.

LVB General Manager, S. Ravishankar; LVB Directors N. Saiprasad and K. Raveendrakumar; Manager, LVB Velliyanai, B.M. Raveendran; Rotary Club of Karur Angels secretary T. Vimala; chairperson S. Rajathi; Foundation Director Shanmugavalli and others were present on the occasion.
