National Youth Day

National Youth Day was celebrated on February 14 at Sourashtra Higher Secondary School. A. K. Ramamoorthy, correspondent, presided over the function. N. Sivasubramanian, former Chief General Manager, Indian Space Research Organisation, and R. V.S. Vijayakumar former Chief Engineer, Public Works Department, in their address, highlighted the noble ideals and principles of Swami Vivekananda. They emphasized that the spiritual life led by Swami Vivekananda was an example for the present day youth. T. S. Soundararajan, Headmaster, welcomed the gathering and L. N. Ganesh Babu proposed a vote of thanks.

Annual day celebrated

The 29{+t}{+h}Annual Day of Ramakrishna Mutt Sarada Vidyalaya Nursery and Primary School was celebrated on February 11. Rama. Pandurangan, Joint Director of School Education, Kallar Reclamation, addressed the students and distributed prizes for academic proficiency and cent per cent attendance for 2010-11.

The mutt and school president, Swami Kamalatmananda, delivered the benedictory address. The annual report for the academic year 2011-12 was presented by the Headmistress, Chitra Janardhanan. The students presented a cultural programme with social and devotional themes. Chitra Devi proposed a vote of thanks.


The 22nd Annual Day of Our Lady Matriculation Higher Secondary School was held recently. The chief guest, V.V. Rajan Chellappa, Mayor of Madurai, delivered a special address and distributed prizes and certificates to the top scores of public examinations on the occasion. S. Chokkalingam, correspondent, presided.

Swimming champion

The eleventh standard student of St. Michael Matriculation Higher Secondary School, A. Govind Chakkaravarthy won three gold medals in swimming competitions in the Bharathiar Day State-level school games held at Tirunelveli.

He won the medals in 50 metres freestyle, 50 metres butterfly and 100 metres freestyle.

The Collector, U. Sagayam, appreciated his achievement. He was also congratulated by the school chairman, M. Stalin Arockiaraj, correspondent S. Bridget Nirmala and Principal K. Mathivadanan.

Sports meet

The 19th annual sports meet of Seventh-Day Adventist Nursery and Primary School was conducted recently. It was declared open by Sub-Inspector of Police Veerasolai.

The Principal, S. John Chellasamy, welcomed the gathering. Santhiya Balaraman, Madurai Corporation councillor, distributed prizes to the winners. Pothiraj proposed a vote of thanks.


The annual sports of meet of SPJ Matriculation School was held on February 11. It was declared open by A. K. Bose, MLA, Madurai North. M. Pathiban distributed prizes to the winners.

Handkerchief Day

With a view to reviving the use of handkerchiefs and reiterate its significance in everyday life, the Kindergarten section of Adhyapana School (CBSE) celebrated ‘Handkerchief Day.'

In this regard, a workshop was conducted by the teachers for the children.

The students learnt to create beautiful handkerchiefs decorated with colourful floral prints.

The students were also taught the techniques of vegetable and finger printing.
