Prize distributed

Sivakasi Hindu Nadars' Girls' Middle School, Sivakasi, conducted the annual prize distribution ceremony on February 10. C.R. Velayutham Nadar, correspondent, presided over the function. The vice-president of the school committee, Vijaya Mohini Annamalaichamy Nadar, distributed prizes to students for proficiency in sports and studies for 2010-11. A. Punithavathi welcomed the gathering. G. Valliammal proposed a vote of thanks.

Models on display

Models of drip irrigation and rainwater harvesting structures were displayed by students at an exposition organised at Lions Junior Nursery and Primary School, Aruppukottai, on February 9 and 10. Kindergarten children displayed a ‘Kids Toys Shop' with a huge collection of toys. They narrated stories on different animals. Students conducted a quiz for visitors. The Tamil department displayed the role of Chera, Chola, Pandiya kings and their temple models. Children recited Tirukkural, Aathichudi, Nanneri and Moothurai. Hand writing, pencil drawing and Rangoli competitions were held for mothers. Kids participated in a fashion show and performed dances.

Student wins prize

S. Shashashefali, a second standard student of Ananda Vidyalaya Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Rajapalayam, won the second prize in a national-level abacus competition conducted by Brain o Brain in Chennai recently. The correspondent, Ramani Chandrasekar Raja, congratulated the student.

Road Safety Awareness Day

Karaikudi. Sree Ayyappa Residential Nursery and Primary School celebrated the Road Safety Awareness Day recently.

The secretary of the Rotary Club of Karaikudi Heritage, G. Muthukumar, inaugurated a human chain of students and teachers on the occasion. The students raised slogans on road safety and carried placards with messages on traffic rules.

They also appealed to two-wheeler riders to wear helmets. The Academic Director, SP. Manikandan, delivered a talk on ‘road safety.'
