Vegetables Day celebrated

First and second standard students of Ananda Vidyalaya Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Rajapalayam, celebrated ‘Vegetables Day' recently. Correspondent Ramani Chandrasekarraja presided over the celebration and headmistress M. Ramani welcomed the participants. Students presented songs on vegetables and their use.

World hand washing day observed

World Hand Washing Day was observed at Sree Ayyappa Residential Nursery and Primary School, Karaikudi, in association with Rotary Club of Karaikudi Heritage. President of Rotary Club of Karaikudi Heritage, N. Ravichandran, presided over the function. Students Komathy, Harshini and Swetha demonstrated the right way to wash hands. All students were given soap and taught how to wash their hands. Correspondent SP. Subbiah and Headmistress M. Alamelu addressed the gathering.

World Polio Day was also observed at the school. President-elect of Rotary Club of Karaikudi Heritage, SP. Manikandan, spoke about polio and efforts to prevent its spread. He advised the students to create awareness regarding polio. The National Service Scheme Programme Officer of Annamalai University, SP. Shanthi, flagged off a polio awareness rally.

Winners felicitated

Winners of sports competitions at various levels were felicitated at a function organised at Muthiah Alagappa Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Kottaiyur. Police Inspector Thangavel presided over the function and Principal S. Murugesh Babu welcomed the gathering.

The students, who were felicitated at the function included M. Monisha, Sivaganga district athletic champion, SP. Swathi and AL. Ramyameenal.

An inter-school teacher training programme on ‘Human Education' was conducted at the school recently. B. Ramanathan of Karuna International delivered a talk on ‘Relevance of compassion in modern world.' Co-ordinator V. Rajalakshmi explained the activities of Karuna Club and Principal S. Murugesh Babu made a presentation on the ill-effects of slaughter houses. K. Ponmudi spoke about global warming and K. Chandrah Brabha delivered a talk on ‘kindness and compassion.' G.V. Gopinath enlightened the audience on the need to prevent cruelty to animals, while V. Nagarajan spoke on the importance of human values. Forty three teachers from nine schools participated in the programme.

Students win championships

Omkar Aditya, a fifth standard student, V.A. Mariyam (standard II) and Lakshmi Prianka (standard VII), students of Prasiddhi Vidhyodaya School won the individual championship in the sixth annual sports meet held in Dindigul recently. Best performers won the over all championship shield also. The chief guest was Annamalaiyar Mills Chairman S. Ramasamy. He distributed prizes to winners.


Teacher's Day

Teacher's Day was celebrated at Cambridge Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Agasthiarpatti recently with correspondent J. Robert Bellarmine and principal R. Annie Matilda as chief guests.

The correspondent delivered a speech on the significance of the celebration. Following the group dance, fashion show, treasure hunt, rangoli, ‘atha pookolam' and solo song competitions, students presented cultural events. The winners were presented with awards. Kindergarten children celebrated ‘Blue Day' recently.

The correspondent, principal, vice-principal and the teachers of the school encouraged the children for their active and enthusiastic participation in the ‘Blue Day' celebration.

Letter Day

To enlighten the young minds and to create an interest for writing letter and posting them through postal department, Pushpalata Vidya Mandir, Palayamkottai acquainted the students from Standard I to X with a postcard and made them write a letter.

Some wrote to their grandparents, parents and friends regarding their requirements for Deepavali. Students were all excited to write a letter on a postcard and as it was their first experience they cherished it. The students were then taken to the post office and were made to drop it in the box.

They were all very inquisitive in knowing about the dispatch and delivery.

Swimming champions

Pushpalata Vidya Mandir swimming champions T. Richard Singh, M. Nikilesh, B.K. Aadithyavas and J. Joel Singh clinched gold in the 4 X 50 metre medley and silver in 4 X 50 metre free style in the CBSE South Zone Swimming Championship 2011-2012 held at Jain International Residential School, Bangalore. The ‘Star Swimmer' Richard Singh won second place in 200 metre individual medley and 50 metres breast stroke and third place in 50 metres back stroke. The swimmers will represent the school in the National Swimming Championship Competition to be held at Bhopal between November 11 and 14.

Reading Day

The students of Bharath Montessori Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Ilanji, celebrated ‘Reading Day' on the campus. Kiddies dressed as different characters in books spoke on the importance of reading. The characters ranged from a mermaid to Harry Potter. The children enjoyed the day by sharing their thoughts and ideas on the importance of reading. The Principalm, Kanthimathi, appreciated the children's efforts.
