Wins cash award

B. Pradosh of Bharath Montessori Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Ilanji, won a cash award of Rs.5,000, a gold coin and a trophy at a national-level Wordsworth International Spelling Bee Competition recently.

About 150 schools participated in the competition from Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Puducherry.

Students took part in different categories and they were tested in phonetic sounds, dictation, jumbled sentences, crossword puzzle, misspelt words, synonyms and jargons.

B. Pradosh, Karthick, G. Inhiyalakshmi, Kaveena, Jeno Michael, J. Ram Vasanthan, Muthamizhl, Brijesh, Ram Satheesh, Mohammed Shakeel, R. Keerthana, Blessy Stegil and Sajeevan of the school will participate in the international championship. A. Mohanakrishnan, correspondent, and M. Kanthimathi, Principal, congratulated the winners.

Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Swamigal of Kanchi Mutt visited Sri Jayendra Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Sankar Nagar, on June 1.

Special pujas and Rudra Japam were organised on the occasion, marking the beginning of a new academic year.

Students performed Vedic chanting and sung bhajans.

Awards were given away to toppers of the school in public examinations by Sri Jayendra Saraswathi. He also addressed the students and their parents on the importance of moral values, good conduct and behaviour.

Students of Pushpalata Vidya Mandir, Tirunelveli, took a pledge to save Mother Earth on June 9 when World Environment Day was celebrated at the school.

Ravi Chandran of Sri Paramakalyani Centre for Environmental Studies, Alwarkuruchi, the chief guest, sensitised the students to conservation of environment through a slide show. The rare species of birds and animals on the verge of extinction and the need to protect their habitat were highlighted in the show. Children also took a pledge to conserve water and power.
