Science expo held

A panchayat union level science exhibition was organised by Directorate of Elementary Education and Sarva Siksha Abhiyan at Fathima Elementary School at Jayamkondam near Ariyalur recently. Students from about 113 elementary schools in Jayamkondam union displayed 615 exhibits. Excellent models on various themes including ‘prevention of global warming,’ ‘plastic management,’ ‘ecological conservation’ and ‘bio-fertiliser’ were displayed.

Assistant Educational Officers Saraswathylakshmy and Ayyadurai, who co-ordinated the exhibition, said that the response to the exhibition was overwhelming.

Cultural fete held

Non-teaching staff of Dr. G. S. Kalyanasundaram Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Pazhaya Gudalur, Kuttalam, Mayiladuturai, run by GKR charities, displayed their talents during a cultural festival held recently. They presented dance, drama and music concert on various themes. School chairman G. K. Ramamoorthy, coordinator K. Sadagopan, correspondent S. Vijayaraghavan, education advisor Usha Natarajan and Principal Eswari Jayaraman commended the non-teaching staff for their excellent show.

Annual Day conducted

Annual Day of Jaihind Baala Bhavan Matriculation School in Vaiyapuripatty (Pudukottai district) was held with usual gaiety. Revenue Divisional Officer D. Mohan was the chief guest. Industrialist S. V. Jayakumar of SVS Motors distributed prizes to the academic toppers. Principal G. Ganeshan presented the annual report. Correspondent T. P. Shanmuganathan, manager of the Arimalam branch of the Indian Overseas Bank, D. Gunasekar, district president of the Human Rights Commission S. Gunasekaran, offered felicitations. The students staged cultural programmes on various themes at the end.

Title for student

Tiruchi Tamilisai Sangam conferred the title ‘Thamizh Isai Thendral’ on S. Kanaka, a standard X student of Sankara Matriculation School, Peralam, Tiruvarur district, at a function held as part of the anniversary celebrations of the Sangam recently. Sangam president L.N. Lakshmanan conferred the title. Vice-president PLA Subramaniam and secretary Rangarajan were present. Also a good Bharathanatyam dancer, Kanaka is a student of Sankaranatyalaya Thiruveezhimizhalai. The youngster is a proud recipient of various awards including, ‘Outstanding young girl,’ ‘Kalai Ilamani.’

School anniversary

The 39th anniversary of the Al Ameen Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Kumbakonam, was held recently with usual pomp and splendour. School correspondent M. Kamaludeen presided over. Principal S. Syed Abdul Subhan presented the annual report. M. Basheer Ahamed, industrialist, delivered the school day address and distributed prizes to the academic achievers.
