On implementation of Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan

MADURAI: The Principal Secretary to School Education Department, M. Kutralingam, on Saturday held a review meeting here with officials of 13 districts on the implementation of Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA).

Utilisation of funds towards creating the required infrastructure for the RMSA, a scheme aimed at universalisation of secondary education, was reviewed at the meeting which was attended by senior State-level officials, Chief Educational Officers of districts, RMSA district coordinators and district managers of ELCOT.

“Our State has got some funds from the Centre for the first phase of this scheme. Construction of additional classrooms, laboratories and other infrastructure facilities was being undertaken in Government schools,” Mr. Kutralingam told The Hindu after the meeting.

The RMSA scheme is for universalisation of secondary education to make the children complete their 9 {+t} {+h} and 10 {+t} {+h} standard as a continuity of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan.

According to S. Karmegam, Joint Director (Higher Secondary), Directorate of School Education, the district officials were asked to expedite the utilisation of funds sanctioned under the scheme.

“The Secretary had reviewed on supply/availability of computers in Government high schools and higher secondary schools. Opening of new schools and construction of new classrooms in schools were discussed with the School Education Department officials from all southern districts,” Mr.Karmegam said. R.Karunakaran, Additional State Project Director (RMSA) and V.Raja Rajeswari, Joint Director (Vocational), were among those who took part in the review meeting.
