Police on Monday arrested a school correspondent for ‘instigating' a mother and her daughter to commit suicide at Poosaripatti village, near here, on Sunday.

Police sources said that Nanjilvalavan, studying in third standard in a private matriculation school at Possaripatti, was found dead under mysterious circumstances near the school during 2008. The Theevattipatti police conducted an investigation and allegedly closed the file saying that the boy was a victim of a hit-and-run incident.

Not satisfied with the investigation, the boy's grandfather Raman (65) approached the court following which a CB-CID inquiry was ordered into the boy's death. In the meantime, based on a complaint from school correspondent Asokan, the Theevattipatti police arrested Raman on charges of threatening him. He was arrested on Saturday and sent to Salem Central Prison.

The arrest of Raman had shocked the family members. On Sunday, Raman's daughter and the dead boy's mother Geetha (35) and his wife Kokila (55) were found dead in a charred condition inside their house. Police found the nozzle of LPG cylinder open. Based on a complaint from their relative Dhanapal, police arrested the school correspondent on Monday.

Tension prevailed for a brief spell on the premises of Salem Government Medical College Hospital as Raman who came on bail had refused to accept the bodies of his wife and daughter. Police convinced him to accept the bodies promising suitable action against the accused.
