To celebrate the launch of Mangalyaan satellite, India’s first mission to Mars, a model of PSLV (Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle) was erected in Jegan Matha Matriculation Higher Secondary School in the city on Tuesday.

The model was placed in the school grounds and a number of students paraded around it, wearing masks to mimic aliens from the red planet.

P.S. Joseph, vice-principal of Cauvery College of Engineering, delivered a lecture on “Mission to Mars”, in which he spoke above the various components of PSLV and Mangalyaan satellite. Using video and illustrations, he explained concepts in a simple language, which made it easy for students to understand.

The lecture received enthusiastic participation from the students who asked questions about Mars and Mangalyaan.

The event was organised to create awareness on Mangalyaan satellite.
