Civic administration is helpless: Commissioner
Udhagamandalam: Expressing concern over the delay in clearing their arrears, municipal sanitary workers gathered in front of the Municipal Commissioner’s office here on Tuesday and gave vent to their grievances.
They regretted that despite several representations the arrears relating to the 6th pay commission recommendations were yet to be paid to them. They said that if steps were not taken forthwith to clear the arrears, they would be forced to mount pressure in other ways.
Commissioner L.S.Girija said that the civic administration was helpless. Pointing out that its current financial position did not permit it to take care of all the outstandings, she said that the first priority of the municipality over the next few days would be meeting its salary commitments.
It would be followed by the setting aside of sufficient funds for disbursing Deepavali advance. As and when the situation improved the arrears would be paid in instalments.
