The district administration has recommended the Directorate of Medical Services to initiate an inquiry into the allegations that two sanitary workers had closed a patient's wound with stitches at the Erode Government Hospital recently.

Annakodi (30), a resident of RN Puthur, was walking on the road on Tuesday, when an unidentified person snatched her gold chain and fled the spot. She received cut injuries in the neck and was admitted to the causality ward in Erode government hospital.

It was alleged by her relatives that doctors and nurses in the ward did not attend Annakodi immediately. Instead, two sanitary workers in the hospital were deputed to close her wound with stitches. This had shocked the patient and her relatives, who reported the incident to the officials in the hospital and the district administration.

“We have recommended to the Directorate to conduct an inquiry into the incident and initiate stern action against those responsible for this act,” Collector T. Soundiah said.
