A group of sand cart workers staged a demonstration here on Wednesday urging the Public Works Department (PWD) to allow sand loading in bullock carts four times a day.
The demonstration organised by the Tiruchi District Sand Cart Workers Union, affiliated to the CITU, was staged near the Collectorate. It was led by the Association district president K.Sekar.
The workers appealed to the PWD authorities to open up the 27 quarries in the district where lifting of sand by bullock carts was earlier permitted. Raising slogans, they urged the authorities not to stop lifting of sand by bullock carts.
