Collector assures farmers of adequacy of fertilizer stock
Samba transplantation has been completed on 91,823 hectares so far in the district, according to Collector K. Baskaran.
Presiding over the monthly grievances day meeting at the Collectorate here on Friday, the Collector said that thaladi transplantation has been completed on 27,967 hectares.
Out of the total transplanted area of samba, System of Rice Intensification method has been followed on 47,823 hectares and conventional method has been followed on 44,000 hectares. Farmers raised the issue of fertilizer shortage and high price of fertilizers at the meeting. To this, the Collector said that there is adequate stock of fertilizers in the district.
He said that there is a stock of 6,252 tonnes of Urea, 2,760 tonnes of di ammonium phosphate and 1,055 tonnes of potash with co-operative institutions and private parties in the district at present. Moreover, 800 tonnes of MFL urea and 1300 tonnes of IPL potash are expected through rail soon.
Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation has so far procured 1,36,945 tonnes of Kuruvai paddy this year in the district. Two hundred and forty five Direct Purchase Centres are functioning in the district. Paddy is procured at the rate of Rs.1,180 per quintal for grade A paddy and Rs.1,130 for common variety at the DPCs. Paddy with 20 per cent moisture content is procured.
