Salem Steel Plant, a unit of Steel Authority of India Limited, has won the prestigious National Sustainability Award for 2011-12 from Indian Institute of Metals (IIM) for the ninth consecutive year.

S.S. Mohanty, Director (Technical), SAIL, and S.K. Khare, General Manager (Works), SSP, received the award from D.R.S. Chaudhary, Secretary, Ministry of Steel, in the presence of Beni Prasad Verma, Union Minister of Steel during the 50th National Metallurgists’ Day celebrations held at Jamshedpur recently.

The plant has won the first prize among the Secondary Steel Plants or Alloys Steel Plants category for 2011-12.

The Ferrous Division of the Indian Institute of Metals has been organising the National Quality Competition since 1991 to encourage and recognise the quality control aspects in the steel sector, according to a release here.
