A section of Congressmen in Salem district went on a one-day fast at Omalur, a suburban town here on Tuesday, urging the Congress high command to ‘sack' Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president K. V. Thangkabalu from the party for his ‘anti-party' activities.
The cadres belonging to various wings of the Salem District Congress Committee participated.
One of the State Secretaries V. Suseendrakumar, a loyalist of Union Minister G K Vasan, prepared a 4-page document titled as ‘Save Tamil Nadu Congress from K V Thangkabalu' and faxed its contents to the Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Youth wing leader Rahul Gandhi.
The document alleged that Mr. Thangkabalu, native of Salem district, had favoured his loyalists in the allotment of seats in the Assembly polls, which they claimed led to widespread dissention among the cadres.
The rejection of his wife's nomination papers and his subsequent contest in the Mylapore Assembly segment, the controversy over the Krishnagiri candidate Sheik Haseena, failure to campaign for either the Congress or alliance candidates and above all the mass suspension of youth wing leaders after the polls were some of the acts that smacked of his ‘high-handedness,' it further claimed.
