At subsidised rates through public distribution system
TIRUNELVELI: Sale of spices and condiments at subsidised rates through public distribution system was inaugurated at Sankarankoil in Tirunelveli district by T. P. M. Mohideen Khan, Minister for Environment, on Friday.
In his address, Mr. Mohideen Khan claimed that the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam Government was successfully implementing schemes, which the Opposition called unviable and impossible, only with people’s well being in mind. It offered a kg of rice at Re one without anyone asking for it.
In his presidential address, Assembly Speaker, R. Avudaiappan, said that the State Government, besides fulfilling all its election promises, had also introduced several other schemes in the interest of the people.
The special public distribution scheme, functioning since last year, was an attempt to insulate the poor and middle class people from the impact of rising prices of essential commodities, he said.
According to an official press release, the District Collector, G. Prakash; N. Malairaja, MLA, and Parvathi Sankar, Sankarankoil Municipal Chairperson, also spoke.
Credit to the tune of Rs 24.4 lakh was distributed to nine women self-help groups on the occasion, the release added.
