VELLORE: Brisk sale was witnessed on Monday evening in the cracker showroom of the Karpagam Cooperative Supermarket, which was inaugurated by Vellore Collector Dharmendra Pratap Yadav in the morning. A sale target of Rs.40 lakh has been fixed for crackers through all retail outlets of the Karpagam Cooperative Market in Vellore district this year, according to S.A. Manimaran, Joint Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Vellore Region and A. Santhakumaran, Special Officer, Vellore Consumers Cooperative Wholesale Stores Limited, which administers the supermarket. So far, crackers worth Rs.33 lakh have arrived.
Mr. Santhakumaran said that crackers were also sold in the head office of the Karpagam Cooperative Supermarket in Vellore as well as in the retail outlets of the supermarket in Tirupattur, Ambur, Vaniyambadi, Gudiyatham and Walajapet.
Crackers would be sold both in gift boxes and in dribs and drabs at all the above outlets, whereas it would be sold only in gift boxes in the retail outlets in Katpadi, Arcot and Arakkonam, he said.
R. Mani, Deputy Registrar of Cooperative Societies (Public Distribution System) said that crackers would also be sold through the fair price shops attached to 25 primary agricultural cooperative banks in the district. The fancy items on sale include paradise (250 crackers), break dance (100) and speed (100), while the other varieties were music party (12 crackers), dolphin (12), Jeeval India (25), beautiful flower (12), happy day (25) and super shot (25). It would be open daily between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. on all days (including Sundays) till October 28.
