Minister to launch programme for fireworks unit workers
Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industries Sudarshana Natchiappan will launch a programme for supervisors in the fireworks industry here on Monday.
Organised by the Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation in association with Renganayagi Varatharaj College of Engineering (RVCE), the programme had been evolved to ensure that the correct employee was given the job in which he or she was trained, integrate health and safety measures in all jobs, abide by all Central and State government regulations such as Explosives Act and Factories Act, provide accident or near miss procedures to prevent recurrences, maintain and promote safe work practices. At a meeting held with PESO officials, engineering college principals in Virudhunagar district and associations of fireworks manufacturers’ in October in Madurai, Dr. Natchiappan mooted training for workers as well as employers on industrial safety and advised the institutes to prepare a curriculum with the help of PESO officials.
Syllabus for three courses has been designed for occupiers, supervisors and workers in the fireworks factories. One such programme – Fireworks Supervisors Development Programme – would be conducted by the PESO and the RVCE here from December 2 to 5.
The Minister would inaugurate the programme at the RVCE. The local MP, Manickam Tagore, would preside over the function. T. R. Thomas, Chief Controller of Explosives, would present the objectives of the programme.
R.Venugopal, Controller of Explosives, would welcome the gathering while Kesavan Varatharaj, Chairman, RVCE, would receive the first copy of the training manual and deliver felicitation address along with A. P. Selvaraj, President of TANFAMA. I. Neethimanickam, Principal, RVCE, will participate.
