For 2006, 104 employers received the awards and for 2007, 105 companies received the awards
CHENNAI: Labour Minister T.M.Anbarasan on Friday urged cracker and match box manufacturing units, leather tanneries and chemical manufacturing units to ensure that safety measures are put in place for their workers.
Speaking at a function to present the State Safety Awards for industrialists and the Uyandha Uzhaipalar Virudhu (best employee Awards) for 2006 and 2007, the Minister said that these four industries were the most accident prone. He also urged the Inspectorate of Factories to ensure the safety of all workers and industrial units.
Mr. Anbarasan said that the number of major accidents in the State had come down considerably.
For the year 2006, a total of 104 employers received the State Safety awards and 41 workers received the Uyarndha Uzhaipalar Virudhu and for 2007, a total of 105 companies and 39 workers received the awards.
In his address, T.Prabakara Rao, Principal Secretary, Labour and Employment Department, said the State government was providing several facilities to set up industries, which made Tamil Nadu the top industrial destination in the country.
