The stretch links Santhanammalpuram, Puthupettai Street

TIRUNELVELI: Farmers of Melapalayam and Palayamkottai have appealed to the district administration to resume work on the road connecting Santhanammalpuram and Puthupettai Street in Palayamkottai.

The farmers said the work on the road connecting Santhanammalpuram Adi Dravida Colony and Puthupettai Street in Palayamkottai was stopped abruptly on April 15 even after Rajya Sabha MP Tiruchi Siva had allotted Rs.20 lakh for this 1.75 km-long road.

Since the road, being laid close to the Palayam Channel, will ease traffic congestion on the South Bypass Road and will facilitate easy access to Palayamkottai, work on this road should be resumed without further delay said R. Ganesan, a farmer from Kurichi and the founder of Tamil Nadu Seva Bharathi Service Organisation.

Stopped after April 14

After stone gravel was spread on the road and a heavy equipment was deployed there to clear the bushes on April 14, work was stopped abruptly without any valid reason even as the farmers complain that political intervention was the motive behind the stoppage of road work.
