Thamizhaga Vivasayigal Sangam led by M.R.Sivasamy will organise a fast at Orathanadu in Thanjavur district towards the end of February demanding payment Rs.20,000 as relief per acre to all farmers who lost the samba crop in the Cauvery delta districts.

A resolution to this effect was adopted at the district-level meeting of the sangam held here on Saturday.

Later M.R.Sivasamy, State president of the sangam, told presspersons that the relief of Rs.15,000 per acre announced by the government is not enough as it is inclusive of the crop insurance amount.

Farmers have been demanding Rs.25,000 per acre as relief. Government should give at least Rs.20,000 per acre and cover all farmers.

The relief announced by the government would cover only a portion of the cultivated area and 1,70,000 farmers only. All farmers should get the relief, Mr.Sivasamy said.
