TIRUCHI: About Rs.3.16 crore has been disbursed to 8,361 farmers in the five blocks of Musiri, Thathaiyengarpet, Thuraiyur, Uppilliyapuram and Manapparai in Tiruchi district so far under the Centrally-sponsored Scheme for Artificial Recharge of Groundwater through dug wells. Disclosing this at a consultative meeting on the implementation of the scheme here on Tuesday, Collector T. Soundiah said the subsidy has been directly credited to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries. About 32,600 farm wells have been identified in the five blocks for the implementation of the scheme.

A subsidy of Rs.4,000 would be given to the small and marginal farmers owning less than five acres of land, while big farmers would get Rs.2,000.

Beneficiaries who have already been selected for the scheme have been asked to expedite the construction of the recharge structures through the Public Works Department, Panchayat President and Village Administrative Officers. They should also hand over documents to the coordinators in the office of the VAOs, Mr. Soundiah said.
