KARUR: Potable water supply in the Thanthoni Municipality, facing acute water shortage, is all set to improve with increased supply facilities being put in place at a cost of Rs. 17.50 lakhs.

The two 40 hp motor pumps at the Kattalai head works, the source of supply in the River Cauvery, are being upgraded into 75 hp motors each and consequently the pumping capacity is also bound to go up.

The two collector wells there, each having a 12.5 hp motor pump, are being upgraded with the installation 20 hp motors each, at a cost of Rs. Four lakhs allotted from the flood relief funds.

From there, water is conveyed to the huge Moolakattanur sump where the existing 35hp motor is being upgraded into a 60 hp motor.
