Government according importance for infrastructure in schools: Minister

TIRUCHI: The Government has sanctioned funds to the tune of Rs. 17 crore to the district under the Sarva Siksha Abiyan (SSA) for undertaking education promotion activities in the district.

The money would be spent for the construction of new buildings, develop playgrounds and procure sports equipments, the Collector, Ashish Vachhani said while speaking at a function to declare open the new buildings and lay foundation stone for the additional buildings at the Government High School, Tiruppainjeeli near here on Wednesday.

The Government has ordered the presence of elementary school within a distance of one km, middle school within a distance of three kms, high school within a distance of five km and higher secondary school within a distance of eight km from any village.

Survey under way

A survey is in progress at present in this connection, Mr. Vachhani added.

The Forest Minister, N. Selvaraj, who was the chief guest, said the State Government was fulfilling all the poll promises within a short period.

The Government was according due importance for the creation of basic infrastructure facilities in the schools.

Following a recent government order, three high schools have been upgraded into higher secondary schools, six middle schools into high schools and eight elementary schools into middle schools in the district in the recent past, he added.

First instalment

The Minister handed over a cheque to the tune of Rs. 3.25 lakh, the first instalment for the construction of the additional building to the headmaster of the school, Ilango.

The Collector felicitated Govindan Chettiar and Venkatesan Chettiar, who donated land for the construction of additional building.

The Chief Educational Officer, R. Muthurkrishnan, the District Education Officer, Lalgudi, Balasubramanian, the chairperson of the Manachanallur panchayat union, Seetha Ilangovan and others spoke.
