S.Natarajan, Collector, distributed assistance to the tune of Rs.1.46 crore to women self hep groups during the international women’s day celebrations here on Thursday.
Bank of India sanctioned Rs.20 lakh to Selamangalam SHG, Rs.35 lakh to Kallikudi SHG and Rs.77 lakh to Thandalai SHG for launching self employment ventures.
The collector distributed the cheques. About 14 SHGs also received Rs.14 lakhs as incentive.
The collector urged the members of SHGs to work hard and repay loans promptly.
The government has been liberal in extending financial assistance to SHGs to aid them in undertaking economic development activities.
Earlier, a large number of women participated in a rally organised by Rural Development Department, Mahalir Thittam, and Puthuvaazhvu Thittam.
Women carrying placards underlining the importance of women’s rights, women’s liberation, and higher education for women participated in the rally, which was flagged off by the collector.
S.Kaliraj Maheshkumar, Superintendent of Police, and N.Jeevakani, District Revenue Officer, took part.
