A subsidy of Rs.1.13 crore will be given to nearly 4,055 livestock breeders and farmers in the district under the fodder development programme this year.

In a press release issued here on Monday, B.Maheswari, District Collector, said that the scheme sponsored by the Central and State government, aimed at giving a fillip to fodder cultivation.

As many as 1,400 farmers would be identified for cultivating fodder on 350 acres, with a subsidy of Rs.2,590 an acre.

The Animal Husbandry department would also encourage cultivation of fodder-based pulses along with maize in 580 acres in rain-fed areas.

A total of 2,320 farmers would get a subsidy of Rs.1,350 an acre.

Implements such as grass cutter would also be distributed.

The Collector has appealed to interested farmers and livestock breeders to submit their applications to the Animal Husbandry or Agriculture department officials for obtaining the subsidy.
