Welfare assistance worth Rs.10 lakhs were distributed to about 250 persons belonging to weaker sections at the mass contact programme held at Govindaputhur village panchayat in the district on Wednesday.

E.Saravanavelraj, Collector, who presided over the programme, gave away the assistance.

198 petitions

The Collector said that a total of 198 petitions were received at the mass contact programme, of which 175 pertained to revenue department.

Action was taken on 166 petitions and the same was conveyed to the petitioners

The departments of agriculture, horticulture, health, information and public relations, and integrated child development scheme had put up stalls at the mini-exhibition set up in connection with the programme.

Various government schemes being implemented for the benefit of people were explained at the stalls.

A.Karuppusamy, District Revenue Officer, and Zeenath Banu, special deputy collector, took part.
