Jayalalithaa condoles the death
L. Perumal, a 30-year old Central Reserve Police Force jawan, who was one of those killed in a fidayeen attack in Srinagar on Wednesday, hailed from Thumbanayakkanpatti near Perayur in Madurai district.
“Perumal had planned to come on long leave in April and he had conveyed this to me over phone last week,” said Lingam, father of the slain jawan. The family was planning to conduct his wedding in May, said Lingam, who is an auto driver.
The jawan belonged to the 2010 batch and was attached to the 73rd CRPF Battalion.
The body of Perumal is expected to be flown in here by a scheduled Air India flight on Friday noon, an official in Madurai District Police said.
In Chennai, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa condoled the death of the jawan and announced Rs. 5 lakh as compensation to his family members.
An official release issued on Thursday said all the necessary assistance would be given to bring the body to his home town. She directed Co-operative Minister Sellur K. Raju and the Madurai District Collector to pay their last respects and to console his family members.
