State government gives its nod for proposal

With the objective of strengthening the groundwater table by conserving the hitherto wasted water and consequently augment drinking water supply, the State Government has released Rs. 5.22 crore for the construction of nine check-dams in the district.

According to District Collector M. Jayaraman, after the district administration identified the surplus water of good number of wild streams and small rivers here is being wasted, it was decided to build check-dams in nine places and subsequently an extensive proposal was sent to the State Government that had given its nod by releasing Rs. 5.22 crore.

As per the plan, the check-dams would be constructed across Pachchaiyaar near Kattalaikaaduvetti in Devanallur village of Nanguneri taluk, across Gadana River near Kaakkanallur in Alwarkurichi village of Ambasamudram taluk, across Kaakkanadhi in Subbulaapuram village of Sankarankovil taluk, across Pachchaiyaar river in Sengulam village of Palayamkottai taluk, Kaarisaathaan stream in Paruvakkudi village of Sankarankovil taluk, across Nishabanadhi in Karivalamvanthanallur village of Sankarankovil taluk, across Ramanadhi in Ravanasamudram village of Ambasamudram taluk, across Gadana river in Pallakkaal village of Ambasamudram taluk and Gadana river in Pananchaavadi village of Ambasamudram taluk, Dr. Jayaraman said.
