The Collector, S. Nagarajan inspected various ongoing anti-sea erosion wall works and the new proposed sites for erecting the same at Chinnathurai, Thoothur, Poothurai, Erayammanthurai and Neerodi on Thursday. The Government has allotted a sum of Rs. 12.28 crore for the construction of anti-sea erosion walls in the coastal areas of the district in the current year. Of this, a sum of Rs. 72.80 lakh would be utilised for the maintenance of the existing anti-sea erosion wall and the extension of anti-sea erosion walls at Erayammanthurai, Rs. 1.88 crore for the construction of anti-sea erosion wall between Poothurai and Thoothur to the length of 450 meters, Rs. 16 lakh for work at Chinnathurai to the length of 50 meters and Rs. 78.50 lakh at Poothurai to the length of 260 meters. Tenders for the implementation some of the works would be called at the earliest and the Collector directed the officials concerned to expedite the works.

He also inspected the ongoing fishing harbour works at Thengapattinam and Colachel.

The Executive Engineer, Ramayya, AEE, Rajan, Executive Engineer (harbours), Malaiyarasan, Assistant Director for Fisheries, Rubert Jothi and other officials accompanied the Collector.
