Madurai division of Railway Protection Force conducted comprehensive checks to combat crime against passengers from March 16 to March 30.

The checks were conducted against ticketless travellers and unbooked luggage carriers in Rameswaram-Madurai section, at Manamadurai railway station, and the Madurai-Kovilpatti section.

During the checks, 83 persons were apprehended for having found travelling without tickets / improper tickets / unbooked luggage, and a sum of Rs.21,655 was realised as fine through fare and penalty from them.

Massive drives were also held against anti-social elements such as touts, unauthorised vendors and men travelling in ladies' compartments. A total of 801 persons were arrested and prosecuted under the provision of Railway Act. A sum of Rs.1,29,350 was realised as fine through Courts of Law.
