MADURAI: Federation of Consumer Organisations - Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry (FEDCOT) has urged the Centre to immediately withdraw the price revision in petrol and diesel. The State Government should bring down sales tax on oil so as to keep fuel prices under check, a measure advocated by the present ruling party while it was in the Opposition, the Federation said here in a press release on Friday.
It said the sixth price revision in two years was unprecedented and would push up prices of commodities and services beyond affordable levels of consumers. It asked the Centre to work out viable alternatives "without harassing the consumers periodically for the erratic trends in international oil market." It suggested formation of a regulatory commission to study the issue in depth and clear proposals for oil price revisions before implementation.
