Tuticorin: Telecom employees staged a demonstration in front of the office of their General Manager to protest the Central Government’s decision to steeply increase the prices of petroleum products, here on Friday.
They demanded that the increase would have a cascading effect on the common man’s daily budget and hence it should be reversed immediately.
The increase in fuel price had surged inflation to high levels.
M. Jeyamurugan, district secretary of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited Employees Union (BSNL EU), A. Paramasivam, district secretary of Tamil Nadu Telecom Contract Workers’ Union, S. Paulraj Pattukumar, district treasurer of BSNL EU, and P. Ramar, branch secretary of BSNL EU, spoke.
Meanwhile, 19 members of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) courted arrest for staging a road roko in protest against the increase in prices of petrol, diesel and LPG cylinder at Kovilpatti on Thursday.
