Role of newspaper in shaping one’s life stressed

Stressing that newspapers’ role in shaping one’s life is significant and bookish knowledge alone will not help people triumph, The Hindu’s Newspaper in Education (NIE) programme for the current academic year was launched at Senthil Public School here on Wednesday.

A video presentation of the 125 years’ celebration of The Hindu from its journey that began in 1878 and how it transformed over the years in technological adoption and marching along with the country’s development was highlighted.

Chief guest K. Dhanasekar, Secretary of the school stressed the importance of updating oneself on day-to-day happenings and exhorted the students to devote at least 15 minutes a day to read newspapers.

Chief Executive Officer Sundaresan stressed the importance of English as a medium of communication and asked students to excel in it.

P. Vijayakumar, Senior Assistant Regional Manager, Circulation, The Hindu, Salem, welcomed the gathering and explained the theme of NIE. C. Srinivsan, Principal of the school proposed a vote of thanks.
