The role of books in neutralising the growing social problems in the community was emphasised at a function organised here on Sunday under the aegis of the Takitha Trust, an organisation promoting literary activities mainly in Tamil.

Addressing the gathering P.A. Ravindran, president, International Tamil Small Publications Association, lamented that at different levels conflicts of a varied kind are on the rise. Attributing the sorry state of affairs to declining values, he opined that by promoting the habit of reading prose and verse the trend can be reversed. Founder of the Trust N. Bhojan presided. Trustee and advocate K.Vijayan welcomed the gathering. Journalist P. Krishnan and Trustee B. Manivannan also spoke.
